Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Featuring Dynamic MicroDriver technology that delivers a full frequency soundstage originally developed for professional musicians, the E2CN is ideal ideal for enhancing your listening experience with iPod, portable MP3, DVD, and CD players as well as all other audio sources. An included selection of interchangeable sleeves allows for a comfortable, personalized fit. Plus, the E2CN ships with an zippered carring case for easy storage. The E2CN's in ear design works like an earplug to block background noise naturally. This enables you to listen comfortably at lower volumes, even in loud environments. And unlike bulky headphones utilizing active noise cancellation technology, no artifacts are introduced into your listening experience. Sound isolating earphones are also much smaller and don't require batteries. The soft, flexible sleeves in the Fit Kit gently contour the inside of the ear for a comfortable, secure fit so that the earphones don't fall out while you're exercising. The cable spool inside provides a convenient, tangle-free way to store your earphones. Sensitivity (at 1kHz) - 105dB SPL/mW Impedance (at 1kHz) - 16 Ohm Cable Length - 1.57m (62 inches) Input Connector - 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) gold-plated stereo plug Unit Weight - 30 gram (1 ounces)

4 out of 5 stars Sounds and fit are Great but other minor issues   November 23, 2008
Sounds great and comes with a foam and rubber ear plugs in three sizes (a total of 6) so you are sure to find something that is comfortable and fits well. High quality constructing (gold plated contact, decent strain relief on BOTH ends of the wires). Sound is high quality and very good background isolation (I can turn the sound down on my iPod, while I am on a train platform that is 20' away from the freeway).

The disappointments include:
It is not one single cable, but a short (18") cable for the earpieces and a SEPARATE longer (24") extension cable. So while the earpieces are light the connectors at the end of the extension cable/earphone cable weigh it down and pull on your ears.

Travel case is big - Hangs from your belt, but doesn't fit in your pocket.

Straight plug on the end - Right angle plug would be much much more convenient.

Overall: Pretty good but overall excellent for the price.

4 out of 5 stars So far..........   November 10, 2008
Today is 11/9/08, I ordered the Shure E2Mc-n earphones on 10/8/08 & Amazon is asking me to give review for a product that I've had for less than a month (after waiting for a week for shipping to happen).
I have a Sansa View MP3 & video player. I wanted something different from the IPOD since both of my kids have them and I'm not too thrilled about what you get for what you pay with the IPOD. I got 8 gigs for a little over $150.
Right away I knew I'd need different earphones both the IPOD & the View have earphones the rest on your ears (over the opening) and the slightest move caused them to not be there. Also any ambient noise almost canceled out what I was listening to. Mowing the law was a waste of battery power as I couldn't hear anything but the lawn mower.
Well, the Shure E2c-n allows me to hear the music I'm listening to, although the mower is still very audible. I don't expect to not hear any outside noise as that would be very unsafe while doing something like mowing the lawn anyway. And remember, true noise canceling headphones "inject" white noise (static) into the background to block outside noise from being heard which means in a quiet environment you hear a hissing sound between songs.
I've only tried one of the many sizes of custom fitting rubber & foam pieces that came with them to help them be the perfect fit for comfort and blocking the outside noise. The one that came already attached works pretty good for me, although I should try some of the others. Many of the reviews I read before choosing these say that finding the perfect fit greatly improves performance, so I may be even more happy with my choice.
The main thing that is impressive is how "sturdy" they appear to be built. The wires are at least twice the gauge of the stock earphones for both units. One of my daughters IPOD earphones quit working on pretty short order as she stuffed it into her backpack daily and I'm sure the wires just gave out. The Gel replacements we got for her have lasted 10 times as long, but I still don't like the fit of them.
One thing to mention, I have worked in a loud production environment for most of my life & hearing protection was a requirement so I'm quite used to having earplugs stuffed into my ears. I guess what I'm trying to say is that these might not be for everyone because you do have to wear them down inside your ear canal for them to work.
Oh yeah the sound......... It's OK for for me. I'm a musician and I'm pretty picky about how it sounds. The high end is really good but the bass just seems to lack. But come on, how could you get booming lows with a tiny speaker anyway?? I don't expect chest rattling bass vibes. There are some earphones on the market that advertise big bass, but I'm really skeptical that they alter the music too much to simulate big bass. With the E2c-m the overall tone is good and that all that matters.
So far, so good............

1 out of 5 stars My ears may not be made for earphones or these stink   October 27, 2008

When they do stay in my ears there is very little dynamic quality to the sound. They are frustrating trying to get to fit and I've tried all of the adjusted ear bits. This was a waste of money and I could not send them back to the seller, I want to scream....

3 out of 5 stars Expected more   October 14, 2008

I liked this product until it broke on me after 7 months. I jog and therefore the wires wiggle a lot but for the one wire to the right ear to start going out on me only after 7 months was very disappointing. Do the makers of these earplugs understand that people don't sit still when listening to their headphones?
The ear wax on the foamy things was kind of gross but I like gross so it didn't bother me too much but it may bother someone else who isn't into gross.
You do have to adjust the buds a little to get the full sound, no biggie but the buds can make the inside of your ears itchy. If that'll drive you crazy then these or other earbuds probably aren't for you. These require that you stick them way into your ear.
I'm not too crazy about having to go out and buy another pair of earplugs after 7 months. If I had only spent $20 on a pair of cheapies I wouldn't mind but to me, $60 for a pair of earbuds is a little expensive and I expect better quality in the wiring.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent sound but some construction problems   September 30, 2008
Shortly after receiving my Shure E2c-n headphones I used them with my I-pod Nano for about an hour and was quite pleased with their performance. Later, however, when removing the earpieces from my ears I realized that 1/2 of the left earpiece casing was still stuck in my ear. Though it came out quite easily I could not get the earphone casing to go back together. I had thought about trying to glue it myself but decided just to return the earphones to the Shure Repair Department in Niles, IL for repair or replacement. I am assuming that this will be accomplished with no further problems.
