3 out of 5 stars If youre not a classical-music-strictly person, this earphone is not recommended   September 18, 2008

For clarity, no question this is a very good earphone. This perfectly suits classical music, songs with piano-only accompaniment or simple guitar, soft, mellow, bedroom music in general. You will hear details--the sprinkle in the string, that timbre in the voice, that slight switch in plucking--that youve never heard before.

But rarely does a person today have a library strictly of these genre. Even some nursery rhymes need some bass. Whatever your age, you would want that upbeat, dance music in your iPod. Just by this vitue alone, this earphone is not recommended. It is not recommended for 'general use,' if you want to put it that way. More so if you have some hip hop music; the sound of rap beats from this earphone is disorienting. Truly lacks bass.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Sound With Tight Bass   September 16, 2008
This review was written by my wife:

A couple of years ago I was in the market for earphones. I did a lot of research and liked the specs of the ER6 model, but reviews of poor bass influenced me to continue my search. My husband asked me 6 months later if I could recommend a pair for him, and I suggested the ER6 with a warning about the bass. He bought the ER6i and was really pleased. I tried them out and was disappointed. I recently visited the website for newer models, and discovered that I never placed the earphones in my ears properly, and never changed the setting of my Archos AV500 Archos AV500 100 GB Multimedia Player and DVR. I increased the bass and bass boost, snugly inserted the earphones, and began my audio test. I sampled classical ("Carmina Burana" & "Nessun Dorma"), jazz ("Poinciana" & "It's You"), Latin ("Conga" & "Turn the Beat Around"), R&B ("Grapevyne" & "Fallen"), rock ("Psycho Killer", "Take Me Out" & "Drive"), hip hop ("Numb/Encore"), audio books ("The Narrows" & "The Terminal Man"), and even movies ("Star Wars - A New Hope", "The Fifth Element" & "Sliding Doors"). They were silent when they were supposed to be silent, had great stereo separation, crisp highs, great mid-range, and (dare I say it?) a deep & tight bass. Some complained about the seal, but I wore them comfortably for 1 1/2 hours of testing, and took them out without a problem. The earphones had a great seal, and the extra bass plus bass boost made a difference this time. These have the potential to be phenomial with the right combination. I decided to order these in black for myself! I will test them out with my new iPod Touch 2G when I receive it tomorrow. I just can't moisten them because my ears started to itch after a while. I will listen to podcasts and games in addition to everything else I sampled on my AV500. Update to follow...

2 out of 5 stars Hugely disappointing   September 11, 2008

I bought these after my Apple Earbuds stopped working, and after reading many positive reviews I had high expectations. After the bass heavy muffled output from my Apple Earbuds, the ER6i's were a bit of a shock, much better treble and midrange, but virtually non existent bass, I mean almost none. I tried adjusting the EQ settings on my Ipod Touch to Bass Booster but this resulted in distortion at very moderate volumes. I'm not a bass head by any means, but I expected a lot better from these particularly when it says 'Enhance bass response' on the box.

5 out of 5 stars great earbuds   August 28, 2008
when i bought these, they were what i expected from reading the reports. mid and highs were clear and the lows are decent. if you like a lot of bass then you gotta go with another set.
you guys probably have read all the pros about them so ill just list my cons.
im the type of person so sticks it very deep in, so at work it is hard to take out and put back in when people come and talk to me. its sort of a hassle cuz it takes like 5 secs to put in and then 5 seconds to pull out. and i also cant hear anyone unless i see them.

another thing is, because i stick it so far in, when i pull it out, i guess it expands the part of the rubber piece that connects to the earbuds. therefore, the seal for the rubber on the earbud gets loose, so when i was at the gym i pull it out and bam, it get stuck in one ear. so i was at the gym with a piece of rubber stuck in my ear. not fun

after a few months i looked at the filter but i didnt notice anything dirty but i wanted to change the filter to see if it helps. i used needle nose plyers to pull it out because the tool they give makes the old filter useless if you want to use it agian. so after replacing it i didnt notice a difference so i popped the old ones back in.

now i use the big flange because the smaller one is too loose and gets stuck in my ear. i think its because i stick it very far in my ear.

using these with ipods, i have no worry about it being damaged because of high volume levels but with the laptop you gotta be careful. if the sound is on full blast and you pop ur earphones in, it might not come out alive. so be careful about that. i have to put the wave volume on very very low, near the minimum then i can adjust using the volume.

these earbuds sort of get my ears numb after a while but maybe thats because i stick it all the way in. maybe i should give the foams another try.
but i highly recommend these to anyone who likes crisp clear sound.
i just bought the sennhiser cx300 to use at work and places where i might need to talk to people because they are 25 on amazon and then tehres a 15 dollar rebate so its a deal at 10 bucks. and i hear they sound very good.

4 out of 5 stars The ER6i Earphones are great   August 28, 2008
I am really pleased with the quality of these headphones. When I put them in Im practically deaf to all other noises around me. They are also extremely comfortable, unlike some other earphones. Although the white has become a little dirty.
