a good product January 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Have been using this product for a few months.
The Pros: - Very well designed. The size isn't big and it's very good looking sitting on my bedside table (I got compliments from people visiting my house). - Can wake up to any track in a CD. A very important feature. Why would anyone want to always listen to the same track? - Set up is quick and easy. Just follow the three easy start up steps and you are all set. - Large numbers on the screen. Even with my poor eye sight I can still see it without my glasses. - Has all the alarm clock features you'd expect from this price range.
Cons: - Screen is a bit bright at night even after dimming it down. I need to turn it away from my face to sleep. A big minus. - It's VERY, VERY sensitive to static. My hands are static prone. There are a few times when, upon first contact with the clock, the static completely shut down the clock or screwed up the screen. I had to unplug it from power and plug it back again. Good news is that it did't change the clock settings. So I can live with that so far.
Overall, it's a good value. If you can live with these two cons then get it.
Broken CD loading mechanism January 25, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We received this unit as a present for our new born. It has now been three months and the CD panel that folds out so you can load your CD's has broken several times. I have been able to get it back working after some time playing with it but it is now broken for good. I would not buy this unit simply based on the factor of too many moving parts to load a CD. Otherwise everything seems to work fine but not being able to play my sons CD's for him is very annoying.
Awesome features, poor reliability October 29, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my second RCA clock radio/CD. The first one did not have a digital tuner, and it was very hard to see where you where on the dial since it was on the side and not easy to see. However, I did love its other features. When I saw this model, I was excited as it has all the prior features WITH a digital radio tuner, plus a few additional features. As with the prior model, I love that you can set the exact minutes you want for the snooze. It also has a nap feature that starts at 20 minutes and goes up in 10 minute increments for excellent flexibility. This allows you to literally take a nap for however many minutes you want, get woken up by the alarm, but not have to touch your regular alarm settings. The sound is excellent for a clock radio, and the reception is fair. I haven't found a clock radio that has reception as good as my 10 plus year old GE clock radio with cassette player. (It still works, but I wanted the CD.) I have checked reception on several different brands, and this unit's reception is no worse and no better than other units that cost more. The different color choices for the display are nice. You can set the time automatically, or you can set it yourself if you like the 5 minutes ahead on your clocks. The snooze button isn't in the usual place on top of the unit, but once you get used to its location, it isn't hard to press when half asleep. However, the CD player isn't reliable. It is likely a design flaw as the front load CD hydraulic mechanism is built into the clock display. There is too much that has to move to load and unload a CD. My first unit of this model developed CD failure. It was skipping, and cleaning the eye and the CD did not help. I liked it so much that I got a new one. I have only had it a few months, and the CD door suddenly won't close all the way. I am now unable to play either a CD or the radio. Some people find the instructions difficult, but I love the features, and didn't have difficulty using the unit. Except for the new features and different button location, the format is very similar to the previous unit. I love the features and the sound quality on the unit, but unless I have had bad luck, stay away from it unless you want to pay roughly $60 for a product that may only last a few months. My first RCA CD clock radio with a regular CD non-hydraulic door on top is still working fine, and I may return to that even though I won't have a digital tuner.
wonderful bedroom accessory October 25, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At night when we go to bed we have a rainforest cd we listen to and we just have to hit the sleep button and turn out the light. In the morning we can choose to wake up to an alarm sound or music on our favorite station or even the morning news on our local tv channel. We also love being able to choose the color of the time display so that is goes with our bedroom decor.
