We purchased the shuffle for our niece for her birthday. I have never seen such excitement. This is an inexpensive way to introduce an 8 year old to the iPod phenomenon and also give her the opportunity to "take good care" of something she values. Also, parents and guardians can only load the type of music that is appropriate for that age group. We downloaded some cartoon soundtracks and a few country songs to get her started. She was so happy. It's fun to see her eyes light up like that. Great investment.

I used to use a 30g ipod and a 8g ipod touch but i find that its a lot easier to work out with the shuffle. Since i only use it in the gym, not lcd having an is fine as i put on 50 songs that i cycle through. Wouldn't really recommend for those who want to control what they listen to. More like a clip on playlist.
Perfect for short trips October 16, 2008
I bought the ipod shuffle for short walks around town (to the grocery store... etc) and it's perfect for that. It's light, easy to carry and the sound quality is great. I was worried that I wouldn't like not being able to pick the first song I hear but I keep my list to my 40 favorite songs of the moment and that works just fine for me.
Small and compact October 15, 2008
Bought this strictly to take with me to the gym, didn't need a huge fancy one, just big enough to hold a couple of hours of songs and small enough to clip on my sports bra. Also like the fact it was $45 bucks!
