I was a little disappointed with this accessory, because although it does what it says it does, it doesnt actually do everything right out of the box.
Yes, you can use itto charge your Archos, but you have to buy the power adapter separately. Yes, you can use it to store pictures from a digital camera, but the input wire provided is a VIDEO input (the kind with thre wires - two audio and one video) so... you can plug it into a dvd or vcr or even a cam-coreder, but not a digital camera.
I thought about using this on vacation. I could download pictures from my little digital camera whenever the card filled up, and keep my archos charged! Great idea, if I fork out $ for 2 more wires. I don't even know what kind of wire would even work for a digital camera. I assume its something I need to get from Archos since I have never seen a wire from camera to mini plug like this. For what it actually can do out of the box, the dvr station which I already had does too, and it comes with the necessary wires.
So... in conclusion, its a handy accessory, but it's not a complete package. As is I havent used it once since I got it because I dont have the wires I need, and the dvr station is all I really needed. Since the DVR station isn't really THAT big, I could probably use that on vacation too... but since I already bought the travel adapter, I probably will end up getting whatever other wires I need. I LOVE my Archos, and thats the only reason I have ended up spending so much money on all the add-ons. It is the only product I've seen that actually IS worth it!

This was the first adapter I purchased after taking the huge dvr station with me on a couple trips. If your thinking about buying the Helmet camera; it comes with this exact base. (so now I have two).

OK - it ain't no ipod. It aint intuitive, it aint simple. But darn it, its gooooood! 10 mins on this little machine and you get the basic idea. Play around some more and it becomes clear. The 604 is a little heavier then I expected but not too bad.
I had to get the travel adapted since there is no way to record TV directly and I have not yet found a way to record TV without using the scheduler. And the scheduler is easy to use - so a couple of misses but now I am happy!
The screen is bright and clear and hardly any washout with sunlight. I wouldn't play any videos on a plane I wouldn't want my neighbor to see ;) the audio is a little low (I use the 604 on a plane so the background rumble seeps in a bit). The internal speaker is not great and do not use the headphones that come with it. Seriously.
The battery life so far is very good, although without getting the extra power cord charging is only from the USB, which means every time I have to change the power settings on my laptop so that the laptop doesn't sleep.
In short:
Pros: Beautiful device, better then anything I have used so far (better then the `pod) Nice big and bright screen, good audio, good battery
Con: Not the device itself, but be factor in $100 more to get everything extra from Amazon - I would recommend the DVR base or at least the travel adapter and the power cord.
I have had it for 1 month now. 4 stars is for great device, missed a star for poor included accessories and a time is takes to get used to the 604
Recommendation: buy!
DVR Travel Adapter December 30, 2006

I have the DVR addition for the 504 and enjoyed it so much I thought it would be nice to beable to play my movies on any tv, so I got the dvr travel adaptor. Well to my suprise you can not play from your archos to any tv with this just record. So if you want to play from your archos you will need the DVR not the Travel DVR Adaptor.
