5 out of 5 stars Like the CD repeat function; Bright display, even on dimmest   November 1, 2008
I purchased this clock radio for the following reasons:

Gentle Wake feature - It starts with a single beep, and this is enough to wake me up. It then progresses to the beeps getting faster, but I've slammed on the snooze by then. Snooze button is easy to find when you're half-dead, by the way.

CD repeat function - A big thing for me. My husband has an alarm clock that's very similar to this one, but his doesn't have a CD repeat option. We listen to a rain CD to fall asleep to, and I always hated that if I woke in the middle of the night, I'd have to reach over to start the CD again, because a silent bedroom drives me nuts. With this Sony alarm clock, the rain continues all night long. The CD automatically stops playing when my alarm goes off.

It looks cool - it made my husband envious for my alarm clock. It has a smaller footprint than his clock, too, so I've got more room for a lamp and other stuff on my bedside table.

Only downside is that the display seems really bright to me, even on its dimmest setting. I do like a pitch black room, though, it's hard for me to sleep with any light. The problem is solved by throwing a dark colored pillowcase over the alarm clock, and that blocks the light from the display. Can't see the time if I wake up without lifting a corner of the pillowcase, but I'm fine with that, I'm never too curious about what time it is in the night.

I've had this alarm clock for over 6 months, and I'm very happy with it.

4 out of 5 stars Good, sound clock radio   October 17, 2008

I've had this clock radio now for about four months or so. It's a fine clock radio. I'm looking for another one, though. Not that I'm dissatisfied with this one, mind you (well, I am a little), I just want one with more bells and whistles. This one has no bells. And no whistles. It does have two alarms, though, which is a great feature. I use one for weekdays and one for weekends. And switching from one to the other is incredibly easy and user-friendly. The sound is ... well, sound. Nothing special. Functional. And here is a great thing about this clock radio: If the electricity goes out for long periods, it remembers all the settings forever. You don't need to reset it. The memory buttons are easy to get at, as are all the main controls. The CD works just fine. It has three dimming settings, although even the lowest one is quite bright.

It also has a little plug coming out of it's little bottom that you can plug into your mp3 player. I have a Sony Walkman, and I must admit that I find this feature very nice. I recently bought (and returned ... don't ask) a Sangean WR-2 in part because when I plugged my Walkman through its aux-in plug, the sound was much too low even at the Sangean's (and Walkman's) highest volume. That is not the case with this little Sony clock radio. The sound is just fine, and very little distortion. You'll need a female-to-male extension cord, because the little cord the radio has to the mp3 is very short. Like five inches, or so.

So why am I after another clock radio? Well, first, this one is really clunky. Really clunky. Also, both AM and FM pick-up is quite weak. Very disappointed. During the one day I had the Sangean I realized just how problematic the signal pick-up on this Sony model is. Stations that came through perfectly with the Sangean would hardly register on the Sony. There's an oldies station I really want, and this unit just won't get it. Maybe it doesn't like music from the Sixties. And I also want a remote control, which this unit doesn't have. And I'd like RDS, which this unit doesn't have.

But if you want a relatively simple CD clock radio that does the simple things well (except pick up the stations you really want), this is a fine unit.

5 out of 5 stars One great clock radio   October 16, 2008
I had to finally bury my old clock radio, used the snooze alarm once to many times. I am 62 and been around alittle. Have to say that this is one heck of a clock radio. It performs greatly with it's functions and sound. It has great sound from radio and cd. The unit is one and half foot from my face and I am a light sleeper and the display brightness does not bother me at all. I set it at mid range and not off. It looks great and is very easy to operate. I now have to buy another one for my wife's side of the bed or loose mine, you know how that goes. Oh and the buzzer gradualy gets louder, it does not shock you out of bed and I love this feature. So the guestion is is it worth it and I say it sure is.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect   October 13, 2008
I stick with the Sony electronics for the most part. I have little trouble with them. This clock radio is no exception. It is easy to use and reliable.

5 out of 5 stars quality clock radio   October 12, 2008
This product is exactly what it is intended to be. It is not a "grand stereo system", it is a clock radio with convenient features. The cd player works fine, along with the sound. The alarm, lighting, and "extras" (date, etc) are all adequate. So if your looking for a quality clock radio with a few extra features, then this product is more than sufficient. If your looking for a stereo system then go buy a stereo system.

p.s. You can't go wrong with a "SONY".
