SHODDY PRODUCT AT ANY PRICE July 8, 2008 I saw this portable dvd player on sale at a large electronics store and bought it before really doing any research on it-what a mistake.I agree with other reviewers as to it's being very poorly designed and made with no technical help at all from Coby.It really is a shoddy product that fails in all respects. The sound is so poor that you have to sit right on top of the unit to hear anything and thats at full volume. If you use the headphones the sound is distorted with a terrible constant buzz in the background. The player stops in the middle of a movie for no reason and constantly freezes or skips on over half of the discs I have tried to play. The player keeps giving the error "INVALID DISC" on brand new dvd's which play perfectly on my two regular Sony dvd players. As for the battery the most time I have been able to get out of a full charge is 100 minutes.Which is not even enough for a two hour movie.Whatever the price for this unit may be it"s not worth it-STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE.
Shoddy Product and No Support July 1, 2008 This DVD player had all the right features, but it turned out to be very poorly made and failed to work in less than six months. During the pathetic warranty period, several pixels dropped out, so I call the factory, naively believing that this was a factory defect. They said it wasn't covered under the warranty. I guess I broke the pixels myself. At that point I promised never to buy another Coby product in the future.
We kept using the player and next found that the clasp that holds the unit shut was broken. Considering the gentle usage this player had experienced, this problem was not justified. The unit lasted another two months and then stopped being able to read any DVD.
Coby is known for cheap stuff, but with only six month's usage before self-destruction, the price I paid was much, much, much too high.
Poor quality July 1, 2008 There is a noticable hissing sound while playing DVDs. DVDs skip way too much. I've tried new DVDs and they still skip. The remote stopped working after 3 months. If I had bought it at a regular store I would have returned it because of the hissing sound. I had an older, cheaper Minitek which was much better than this. After 6 months I'm ready to trash it and by another brand. I've never needed to use the swivel screen, but it feels flimsy when I tried it out.
Nice little DVD Player! June 28, 2008 I was pleasantly surprised with all of the accessories that came with this DVD player. This is easy to operate and the swivel screen is a nice feature. I feel this is a great value, a very nice DVD player.
Good DVD player for very little money May 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this for my 7 year old daughter a few weeks back for her birthday. Unpacked it and found out that it had a bunch of dead pixels right in the center of the screen. I was miffed at that but Amazon sent a replacement right away. Amazon really does have an excellent return policy.
Picture is clear, sound is OK, and it holds up to the abuse that only a seven year old can dish out to an electronic device.
Recommended.
