Good Active Phones, But I Prefer My Vic Virths November 25, 2008 Simply stated, the Audio Technica ATH-ANC7 are the best active noise cancelling headphones I've tried/owned on a durability and a "bang for the buck" basis. In my opinion, they sound about as good as the Bose headphones I've tried and seem to be about as well constructed. They do not hiss like the Sony active phones I've tried. They have proved to be far more durable than the two pairs of Phillips I've owned, broken, and discarded. Bottom line: the Audio Technica phones reproduce music accurately and do a good job attenuating...but not eliminating...ambient noise.
This said, I prefer my passive Vic Firth isolation headphones (www.musiciansfriend.com). Why? The Vic Firth phones, primarily used by musicians in high-decibel situations, are far less expensive, sound about as good, block more noise than any active phones I've tried, and are virtually bullet-proof (go ahead and drop them...or throw them).
These headphones are absolutely the best November 23, 2008 So far I had these headphones for a month and they are still good. Better than those Bose headphones, way cheaper, and the most sturdy looking headphones i've ever had had. Another feature I like the most is the detachable wire because every time I buy headphones they end up breaking because of a faulty wire so i know that these headphones will stay with me for life. The clarity of these headphones are the best. You can hear every detail of the song even when you put the volume down. Also they come with a year warranty which is better than any other headphones.
A note about their fit... November 23, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The sound on these headphones is fantastic. Everything about them is fantastic, as far as I'm concerned. There have been plenty (hundreds) of reviews thus far saying how great they are, and they're right!
So instead of discussing the sound, I'll clear up a little disagreement about the fit of these headphones. A few people have said that they're uncomfortable, or that they crush their ears, but I think those people are wearing them wrong.... I have pretty big ears, so if the cups were too small, I'm pretty sure they'd hurt my ears too. But I discovered that the way you put them on makes a big difference.
If you just put them straight onto your head, the cups will push on your ears a bit, and I can see how that would become uncomfortable after a while. But if you sort of shimmy them back and forth a little onto your ears when you put them on, so that the outer cartilage parts of your ears go INTO the cups, this will make for a MUCH more comfortable fit.
I love these headphones, and I'm sure you will too. Hope this helps!
OK November 23, 2008 I bought them based on the reviews on this site. I was struck by comments that said these were as good or better than the Bose phones. I really don't want to spend that kind of money and have them fall apart (from reviews on the Bose). These are very comfortable headphones. They do not block out much noise. I just used them on a transatlantic flight and was very unimpressed. I will continue to keep looking for something better. I would not but them if you was silence.
Absolutely The Best!!! November 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've owned these headphones for one year. I'm a believer in giving a product a thorough trial before rating it. Simply stated, these are the best noise cancelling headphones for travellers that you can buy at any price.
I fly about 80,000 miles per year. As you road warriors know, airplane noise and screaming nose miners can really grate on you during those 12 hour flights. These headphones greatly reduce these noises giving you a chance to read or sleep. I used the Bose several times as a freebie in Business Class, and although the noise cancelling is similar, the on-the-ear style makes your ears numb after several hours, requiring removal to regain the circulation in your ears. The over-the-ear type eliminate this discomfort and also reduces the non-steady (mindless conversation and kids screaming) noise that has become the norm on airplanes these days. Other Pros: Removable Wire Connection, Robust Carrying Case, Durability, Battery Life Cons: None
I've recommended these to my international travel colleagues and all are grateful. You will be too!!!
