great item for the price, but bad battery life July 8, 2008 For $35, I introduce to you the Zen Stone (Red) by Creative. It holds 1 gigabyte of music, or roughly 250 MP3 files from your computer, and is probably a total of like 3.5 inches big. Its also weighs less than a pound, and comes with a shuffle - repeat - or normal play button which I thought was cool. Additionally, it comes with a small white USB cable to transfer your songs to-and-from computers, and ON TOP OF THAT they included a pair of pretty decent quality headphones that are the type that go into your ear.
I have two complaints with this product. Like many have said, it's battery life is pretty bad. Creative claims that this thing can last up to about 6 to 8 hours, but in reality it lasts about 3 or 4 hours which is kind of annoying, but kind of acceptable seeing what the cost was and how much this thing can hold. Another slightly irritating flaw I found is the lack of any kind of screen indicating what song you are listening to. Now I know many of you are going to say, "but Sean, you put the songs on it, you should know what you are listening to" and that is entirely true.. but I listen to some underground music that I don't remember the names and if I come across a song that I really dig but don't know the name then when I get home its going to take me hours to sort through all my music and find it.
This little gadget is ideal for those on a budget, enjoy running, working out, those on a really long car ride, or some people who like to steal some company time and listen to music while working lol. Its really easy to use, real small, and honestly I believe it to be a good buy.
nifty little durable squirt of music July 5, 2008 Creative doesn't need me to applaud their littlest gadget music player. I've had mine over a year, but a few days ago I made the mistake of leaving it my gym pants and washed it. When my husband handed me the tangled little mess, Zenstone and headphones, I really thought I had to buy another player. My husband advised me to let the gadgets dry for a day or two before plugging it to recharge. I finally tried it, and I was shocked to see it flicker to life as it does in charge mode. Imagine my greater shock when I found the Zenstone and headphones worked. I'm listening to the player now as I type this review. I've always admired Creative products, but I thought I'd write this review for the newbies out there who are looking for a durable little player. It's perfect for using at the gym because of its size. Another private bit about the Zenstone. Instead of fumbling with player holders when I have no pockets in my gym pants, the Zenstone is small enough that I can stick into my bra during my two hour workout. Some time ago I bought the Zen V PLus, the 4 gb, but I still return to the 1 gb Zenstone. It's worth the value in durability and listening pleasure
I must concur with those who never got it to work July 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have the black one, and this thing has been a frustration from the beginning. I have never got it to work. My PC recognizes it, but gives me an I/O error. Media Player refuses to recognize it. I have never got it to play, and can't figure out why. Now it does not turn on at all, and I figure it is a dead battery. It could be my problem, but with nothing but a blinking light to go by - how can you tell what is the problem?
Piece of junk! June 29, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a piece of JUNK.....don't buy it. Consider an Apple iPod Shuffle for just a few dollars more.
I received my Zen Stone 1GB player as a gift. Once I charged it up and loaded the music, it would play no more than 3 hours. The specs (and Creative support says it should play 10-12 hours. (I have since read some of the chat forums and many others are experiencing the same 3 hour playback.)
I inquired via there email support and got NO response at all. I then called their support line and was told that I had to update the software, AND "repair" the player software. After having done all this, it still only played about 2 1/2 hrs.
I asked for a refund (or exchange) but because it was a gift (and I could not provide a dated receipt), they would only repair it if I paid $25. I told them it was not even worth $1.
So....save yourself much grief and money....DO NOT BUY THIS!!Creative Zen Stone 1 GB MP3 Player (Black)
