The Sound is Great May 18, 2008 The Sangean RCR-22 perfoms very well. The sound from the top of the radio is great quality and the unit stays tuned in to stations with a very stable, locked-in quality. The clock set itself to exact time (I also have an atomic clock watch). My only disappointment is that it is impossible to have the radio play for two hours on each alarm setting (my old clock radio did). You can only get two hours by setting two hour-long alarms back-to-back. The instructions gave the impression that a different alarm could be set for each day, but I have not been able to figure out a way to actually do that.
Very poor quality--do not waste your money. May 17, 2008 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Sangean atomic clock radio Even after reading all the negative reviews, I decided to give this atomic clock a try as a gift for my husband. The light was way too bright, even on low. But after about 3 weeks, the whole thing just quit. Nothing worked. A total piece of junk.
Display brightness is a big problem May 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am returning this clock to Amazon. (Bless them for their excellent return policy.)
The RCR-22 is very nice in many ways: good FM reception, good atomic clock reception, dual alarms with day-of-week flexibility, etc.
The bad news is the display. It's WAY to bright. Sure, you can dim the light, which is a nice feature, BUT when you dim it to an acceptable level you can no longer read the display. For me, a fatal flaw.
Can't believe this clock got good reviews May 15, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
First, the manual is worthless. Doesn't tell you what all the parts are or where they go--although there are diagrams. Says things like "hold down the button for more than 4 seconds." The on/off button has a picture of a person in a be. To set the alarm, you have to follow the instructions exactly. And the instructions are less than clear--it doesn't tell you, for instance, that the clock relentlessly counting from 1-0 is what is supposed to happen when you set it. Nor does it tell you that it takes several minutes for it to find the signal. It's not intuitive or logical. If there's more than a one-hour power failure, you'll have to get the manual out again to set the alarm.
The display is either too bright to sleep with or too dim to see. It does pull in hard-to-get stations, but that's the only good thing about it. The sound is certainly that of a small plastic clock radio. Any other clock radio will do everything this one does better, except set itself to the correct time.
You have to want this clock--there's no way to set it up without ripping the plastic wrappings to get the parts out, and Amazon won't take it back without the wrappings in tact. If you buy it, it's yours.
Great Clock Radio April 11, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Love this Clock Radio. Time automatically set within a few minutes. Radio is crisp and clear and does not drift (unlike my RCA clock radio). As other reviewers have said on bright the display is far to bright, however I like that it's adjustable (on the bottom) for the dimmed setting. Best feature is the way the dual alarms work. I have the radio set for M-F, and set the beep alarm (which starts quiet and build up slowly) for the odd days when my wake up time is different, from there I don't touch it. Buttons seemed a bit small but are laid out well and I have no problem finding them. RECOMMENDED.
