I love it for books on tape March 27, 2008 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
When searching for an MP3 player I was going to use primarily for books on tape the pause feature was important to me. I did not however find the product descriptions or very many reviews that answered my questions regarding this feature. I bought this Stone Plus and hopped it would do what I wanted. It does.
I can pause mid story and let it power down on its own then when I power back up later it starts up where it left off. I can pause and change to the radio feature and when I swich back it starts where it left off again. If I hit pause and change to a different saved song it does not come back and play where it left off and I have to search for the chapter I was in and start that chapter from the beginning.
I hope this helps anyone else researching these features.
Should have heeded the negative reviews March 25, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm pretty disappointed with this player for mechanical reasons mentioned in other posts which I'll try to summarize here. I really don't have much of a problem with the interface like some people do.
1. It took me three different units before I got one that would actually take a charge and be recognized by my computer.
2. The battery lasts me roughly 6 hours at best and that's without frequent trips to the controls to switch songs, view the display, etc.
3. It's frequently difficult to turn on. I have to press that button just right and hold my toungue a certain way when I press it for the silly thing to turn on.
4. Same problems turning it off.
5. Music has frequent dropouts. That is, while playing a song, it'll stop for a second then start again. Double checked to make sure the songs aren't corrupted/missing bits, etc. on the original source MP3. Nope, they play smoothly and uninterrupted on the computer and another MP3 player. Don't know if bits are dropped when transferring music that causes drop outs or if it's some physical flaw in the player.
I really want to like this little player but it just has too many faults for me to recommend. Wish I'd just kept my $45 and stuck with my old, flawless 512mb iRiver!
Faulty On Switch March 21, 2008 The Zen Stone Plus is finicky and can take 30 seconds to turn on. The turn on is a turn off. Sound is somewhat muddy. Channel search on preselect will not stop if having been held for several seconds and goes roaring past where you were trying to get to. Enough frustrations would not recommend.
do not buy this MP3 player March 12, 2008 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This zen stone is difficult to use, does not have folders visible to scroll through, and the on-line and technical support stink. also, the first one I bought was defective and I was forced to exchange it.
Great player, but hold down the button a LONG time to power on March 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great little player, slips easily into my jeans pocket and puts up with a lot of abuse. However, people need to know that power on can take a long time -- you have to hold down the tiny button for 20 seconds sometimes. Otherwise it may appear to not hold a charge or power up and you will go through unnecessary tech support experiences. Keep holding the button until the logo appears.
