Excellent AM Radio September 8, 2008 I live in the 'burbs pretty far outside of Boston and love my sports radio. I was having a devil of a time getting WEEI, WRKO, and ESPN with my standard radio. I can get all three now. (Mind you it's not always perfect reception, but acceptable, especially considering my distance) The audio quality is fine, and I listen all night while doing things around the house. I had no buzz like some other reviewers described. I like it!
Works Great August 22, 2008 I bought it for my bathroom and it works great. I don't even need to raise the antenna to get great FM reception.
Nice idea but..... August 17, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had only used the Sangean PR-D5 radio for two weeks and then the problems started. At first, the on/off button was not working well. I could turn off the radio but getting it back on was iffy. So I just left the radio on and then it started turning itself off. Next it would work on AUX input just fine but when I wanted to listen to an AM station it would not hold any AM station. After being on a station for a few minutes, it would just start scanning the dial, and would not stop. The battery life seems short. I can't tell you how long they last because my radio will no longer turn on at all. The radio does not have a carrying handle. Talk radio stations sound a little "boomy" as the radio is optimized for FM Stereo stations. Overall, it seems like a nice design but this one is a lemon, so I'm going through the hassel of trying to get it replaced. Maybe I should have bought the Crane CC radio plus or even a different Sangean branded model. Who knows? I expected a lot more quality control from Sangen.
A different story.... July 22, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I purchased this radio on Amazon and received it today. I am sorely disappointed. Many of the reviews I read online noted the radio's great AM/FM reception quality, which is the main reason I sprung for this model. However, to my surprise, even in the broadcast-rich region I live in, I received only 5 FM stations clearly. For fun I even checked a map to see where they came from, and they're all within 10-15 miles of my home. I cannot receive the NPR news station that has a transmitter 6 miles away. By comparison, I receive about 20 FM stations very very clearly on my car radio even when it's parked right outside my house where I've been trying the Sangean. To add insult to injury, the little radio that came inside of my Microsoft Zune MP3 player gets the same stations as the Sangean clearly, and without any antenna! Perhaps mine is faulty, but either way it's getting returned.
Excellent Small Radio July 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great reception, FM is outstanding, selectivity of weak stations is enhanced by adjusting antenna, AM is excellent as well. Hard to say if two small speakers is better than one larger one as in other Sangean products, but overall a great radio in a small package.
