 Great little player July 20, 2008
This is my first MP3 player & I did a lot of research. I agree with most of what I read (and you too since you're looking at these as well).
Pros: easy to use, relatively intuitive to set up, small, fun, good sound replication.
Cons: headphones aren't super comfortable (but they'll do), instructions for use don't exist (you can always just hit buttons!).
Despite reading reviews about problems with it freezing, knock on wood, that hasn't happened yet. And people whining about it not coming with a MP3 converter - there are free converters out on the internet. AND, WMA file (which is how it "rips" CDs) can be smaller & has better sound reproduction.

The zen 4gb has a lot of well thought out features. Such as playlists being resumed after the device has been powered off. Creative has thought about usability quite a bit and it shows.
I generally use linux, and the player while not recognized as a mass storage device is still usable with the gnomad2 program or many multimedia apps that support the mtp protocol such as rhythmbox, amarok or exhaile. However playlist management is a problem. After not finding a linux app that let me edit the playlists as I desired. I installed the zen media explorer under windows only to find its playlist management to be only marginally better. I was looking for something to shuffle a playlist after it is created as I get tired of hearing the songs constantly in the same order.
Also I have had to reformat the zen twice with the zen software as the player would get into a state where no files could be copied to the device or playlists could not be created. The first time this happened I thought it was possibly due to a flaw with the linux apps. The second time was after using only the creative software. This is makes me worry about the device lifespan.
 IPOD went out the window at 55MPH July 17, 2008
The Creative Zen puts the IPOD to shame! I was so frustrated with my IPOD it went out the window at 55MPH! After doing much research I decided to go with the Zen and it was a great decision. I love it, it's easy to use from listening to downloading...I LOVE IT!

No complaints. I only use it for music. I like the bookmark feature so I can mark songs I want to delete. Battery life is good.

i bought creative zen 4 gb music&video player appr. one month ago. it is very useful. especially video quality is stunning. also amazon worked very efficently during the delivery process. thanks a lot.
