Nothing for me March 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this item especially as an voice recorder, but either I couldn't figure it out or it simple don't works. And to be honest I'm not patient enough to try it over and over again. The worst problem was the handling. Before I bought this item I was reading the ratings but since I have small fingers I thought I could handle it better than the other customers, but I was wrong, it was really annoying to handle it. Another failure was that I couldn't change the language. The good point was the drag and drop possibility using windows vista without installing the CD. FM was working well also. Another good point: one aaa battery. All together I will return this item and buy an Olympus voice recorder and maybe another mp3 player for audiobooks and FM features.
Good simple player March 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've used this for a year now. I use it only in the gym and don't place many demands on it: I turn it on and listen to the songs. I download a month's worth of songs at a time and go. It starts where I left off with the resume function.
The previous comment on the joystick is accurate. It is annoying to use, especially while trying to stay upright on the stair machine. But, I don't need to mess with it very often, so I haven't gone batty. If your skipping around to different songs, look elsewhere.
For my uses, the pros outweigh the cons. The sound is great. You can adjust the EQ's to your heart's content. The battery life is about 15 hours for a alkaline, so much less for rechargeables that I don't bother anymore. The display is OK, but, again, I don't look at it much. It has proved very reliable with no mechanical problems at all.
Playlists are a problem here. For some reason, the player orders by artist. It will play all the songs by an artist on the player, no matter what order or playlist you put them in. So I just group artists when I download and keep away from my established playlists.
This is the third iRiver product I've owned and think the brand should get more recognition than it does. They are a great alternative to iPods and seem to be more reliable than Sansa products, in my experience.
Toggle for Navigation will drive you BATTY!!! December 30, 2007 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
iRiver 1T602BL T60 2 GB MP3 Player (Black) I have an old school 1g iRiver T10 which I absolutely love. I've dropped it numerous times, kicked it off a treadmill, and left it in the car during a hot Texas summer. The thing still works, no problem. It will accept any type of music media and runs for over 40 hrs on a single AA battery. So when I went looking for a no fuss mp3 player for my mom for christmas, I thought iRiver of course. Unfortunately the T10 was no longer available but I thought the T60 being of the same line and having more memory etc would work. Boy did I make a mistake... I read the specs and it seemed to be what I was looking for. It will play any type of media, works off a single AAA battery (because my mom uses her computer only for email and wouldn't want to keep re-charging her mp3 battery if it meant she needed to use her computer), and even had an FM radio feature which I was looking for.
I did read the other reviews that mentioned problems with the toggle for the main menu but the picture didn't really show that it was basically a tiny joystick. Having prior experience with an iRiver I assumed that it was simply that people were unfamilar with how the Nav button was supposed to work. I was tragically wrong. I have to wonder how this piece of junk made it out of production without driving the whole crew of genetically challenged monkeys insane. The Navigation toggles between sound (up/down), skip (forward/back), and the main menu. Getting to the main menu to change from mp3 music to FM player is a real pain in the nether region. Everytime you try, you almost always get the volume or the skip song. Simply put... they didn't design the switch right and I almost put the whole unit through the window the first hour. Another thing that didn't work as it was supposed to was the playlist feature. Using the newest windows media player, I couldn't get a playlist on the unit. I had to go through the backdoor so to speak and move the music files over to playlist once they were already on the T60 using my computer's move file feature (oh and it wouldn't accept them as a group/file folder...I had to do it one at a time). And yes, I did try to update the T60 but turns out I had the last update but I went ahead and re-formated hoping that would make a difference...no dice.
I rated it with two stars only because it does have some good qualities even though they are grossly outnumbered by the bad. One good quality is the sound. Second, it's use of alkaline batteries that don't have to be constantly charged (a big plus for those that aren't as comfortable with technology like my mom). If it hadn't of been for the toggle switch being wonky, I could have dealt with the playlist feature not working properly but that switch should never have made it past the Research and Development stage.
