Ahhhhhhh.......Yes! July 1, 2008 Finally, an electronic product that really 'just works,' as they say over at Apple Inc. My advice: Just buy it!
Pros: The sound quality is awesome. The bundled headphones are well designed and provide crisp, clean sound. Media can be played by folder as well as artist, album, etc. The screen clarity is brilliant. You can play wav files! The drag and drop is amazingly fast and simple. No additional software is required, although software is included with the player. When you have added new tracks, the update library prompt is very speedy, unlike the Sansa player. It is sleek and light. The battery lasts forever.
Cons: For me there are none, but don't expect to be able to record or listen to the radio.
5+ Stars...Buy it! July 1, 2008 I'm not going to go into an in depth review here. I will just say that this is an AWESOME product from Sony. The sound quality is absolutely mind blowing. I've never heard any other Mp3 player that even compares to the sound quality with this unit. I would buy this model again in a heartbeat. The price is also a really good value. Buy it and you won't be sorry. Get the Sony case too. It is worth the extra $$!
Forget iPod June 21, 2008 Sony NWZ-A818 8GB is the best MP3 player period. easy to use,the screen is just great to read your song titles & watch videos I couldn't be happier with mine
Not perfect, but close June 20, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got this player because it's time for larger storage capacity than my 1GB Cowon iAudio G3. If you think you can live with the cons listed below, it's the right player for you.
Pros: 1. Sleeker appearance than iAudio and not much bigger. 2. The reset button. I haven't used it, but with iAudio I had to re-load the software twice in the two years I own it.
Cons: 1. No radio. 2. No voice recorder. 3. Can't delete songs without hooking up to the computer. 4. 99% of the Chinese song tags show up as gibberish, while iAudio decodes them all.
Pro or con depending on your preference: 1. Uses rechargable battery rather than AA battery. 2. The sound is good but a bit jarring for my taste compared to iAudio's smooth, rich sound.
My first mp3 player June 13, 2008 Consumer Reports gave this Sony Walkman a better review than any other mp3 player. This is the main reason I purchased this model. I also buy almost all of my music through Amazon's mp3 downloads and Amazon's download service is mentioned as being compatable (along with most others) with this device. This player visually is sophisticated, sleek, and fits my hand like it was custom made. The volume control is on the side which I like better than the Ipod because this allows a better control of the device with less chance of dropping it. The operating controls are intuitive, tactile, and well placed. The screen is bright, big, clear and easily readable even in bright light. Loading music onto the device could not be easier or faster (I use windows media player and it could not be more compatible with the Walkman.) The box arrived and I was suprised it was so small but its all there; headphones with an extension (the only thing Consumer Reports criticized was the sound quality of the head phones. I must disagree, I found the sound to be excellent.), a patch cable to connect to your computer, and the latest version of Microsoft Media Player. Now for the sound. The sound is big, clean, and deep. The options menu provides many different sound listening options such as an equalizer that allows you choose options such as "concert hall", or "small club", or "studio" and each of these options is unique and adds a different dimension to the listening experience. The menu screen give you all the usual info such as album, artist, year published, genre, and rating, which can all be seach criteria for music to listen to. Music can be selected by one of the criteria mentioned and then shuffled within the seach which is very neat. I bought this unit for its music capacity so I have not really played with the photo or video capabilitis much. I found the screen a bit small to really appreciate videos but it is neat for bringing photo to show. Again I bought this device to listen to music and with its 8gb capacity it is holding close to 8 hours of music for me and the sound cannot be beat. Buy This if you want a great sounding, easy to use, great looking mp3 player.
