The Best MP3 / PVP Available March 27, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Before I purchased my YP-P2 I researched literally every model I could find. I even purchased a Zune 30GB but took it back to the store the next day (that's an entirely different review). Finally I ordered the Samsung and it has delivered on everything promised and more.
I'm out in the desert flying medevac helicopters so I needed something portable that I could use to watch movies on during my 24-hour alerts. Here are my thoughts on the YP-P2:
-Internet connections are not always reliable out here, so it was refreshing that I was able to use the YP-P2 right out of the box without having to be online. I just plugged it into my laptop and charged it up and it was ready to go.
-I've seen reviews about the difficulty transferring videos of different formats onto the player. When I was able to get online, I downloaded the newest software from Samsung and converting files is easy and efficient. It takes about 45 minutes to convert a movie, but that's the norm. I've set it up to reduce my 1Gb .avi files into 300 Mb .svi files for the YP-P2. The quality I get in both audio and video is still great. Unfortunately, the Samsung software is pretty useless for anything else since the interface is so archaic. I use Windows Media Player to transfer music to the player and it works great.
The screen and interface are absolutely gorgeous, especially with the newest firmware from Samsung. I work with a whole group of die-hard Ipod fans who were certain that I was going to regret not going with the Ipod Touch. That was until they saw the YP-P2. The audio quality is beautiful and the screen is perfect for viewing videos. The extra $100 I was able to pocket by not forking over $300 for an Ipod Touch (what does "no software upgrade" mean, anyway?) is just an added bonus.
Conclusion: If you want a great gadget to watch movies and listen to music on, this is definitely the one to go with.
I think this is better than IPOD. March 25, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
First, let me say that I am Anti-IPOD. After searching for a player that is as good as IPod, functional and not expensive, I came across the Samsung YP-P2JCB. This is my third MP3 player and it is the best by far. It's a good price and the features are awesome. This player is ideal to use in conjunction with the Unlimited Rhapsody subscription. ([...]). You will enjoy nothing but pure fun and entertainment. The only setback is that you can only get it in 8GB and you can't add more memory. But for those who are not trying to download every song and movie on the planet, it works great. I can't forget the one amazing feature that really attracted me to this player and that is the Bluetooth function. If you have a Bluetooth cell phone, you can answer your phone calls through the player headset. Make sure that you have the appropriate headset for this function. Now you can listen to your music and not miss a call.
Significant Bluetooth Problems March 16, 2008 1 out of 20 found this review helpful
There is one significant problem with this unit. I connected two bluetooth Motorola S9 headsets to it and the music slows dramatically, making it almost useless. I have downloaded firmware 3.15 but it doesn't help. We use the unit to train in ballroom dance and thought it would be ideal to have both people listening to music off 1 unit. Until they fix this problem I would steer clear.
Apple wins, hands down March 7, 2008 4 out of 30 found this review helpful
I am a gadget freak. I've owned them all, cowon, iriver, meizu, archos, and many gen's of ipods.
With the iphone (touch is even smaller) apple hit a homerun. The interface and ease of use is far superior to anything on the market, handsdown. If you say different, then you have not compared the apple touch interface first hand.
The sammy is a good looking piece of hardware with a nice bright and very colorful screen. the only major problem is that the interface is lame. The touch is not responsive as comparedto the apple touch and the whole interface seems somewhat incomplete. i guess if i never had used a iphone or touch i would think that this is far superior to the archos and cowon touch screens. But, the apple has no peer.
If you like ease of use, simplicity in your devise with beutiful asctetics, go with the apple touch or iphone. If you are a apple hater, then the sammy is a good choice but still you owe it to yourself to look at the apple touch). People bash apple as being propriatary in codecs and cables andsuch, but the sammy is very limited in codec support and the ease of ripping a dvd to the sammy is way to dificult and slow. I use a mac and with XNJB it is no problem getting mp3's on the P2 , but video encoding with the sammy software stinks. Handbrake for the apple anyday. Speed and ease of use (also good for PSP and PS3).
I will be returning the P2 as it does not compare on most fronts w my iphone (i am comparing only those features they share, granted the iphone has way more features, i am not knocking the sammy for that).
my toy March 4, 2008 I purchased this to interact with my bluetooth phone which I have not signed up for yet.
