Better than spending all your $$ on i-anything July 29, 2008 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought a classic 80GB Ipod and wanted to use it to its full potential. There are soo many Iproducts out there and besides how much music/videos you buy, you could spend thousands of dollars to enhance one device. I was in and out of the hospital for awhile and wanted to not only watch my DVD's, but everything in my Ipod. Well I did the research and this is one of the only ones that supported my type. I have had it in ER's, my hospital room and I love it. I have never had any problem with it and eventhough I bought mine at a store, it is white and pretty damn cool. I highly recomend this to everyone. Even my mom takes it with her on trips. Hope this helps and one last cool thing is when I can afford an Iphone, it has every adaptor for every Ipod you can buy, which is a pretty cool deal. To the dude who says that the sound sucks, you are a liar!! It has Dolby Digital. Check what audio channel you are on numnuts.
I like Philips......BUT July 5, 2008 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I picked one of these up. I was psyched about the iPod dock. A great idea and from what I can currently find, also a unique feature. No one else has a portable DVD with an iPod dock. At the time of purchase I was torn between this Philips model and the Sony FX820. I'm a big Sony fan but the iPod dock really had me.
I got it home and popped my iPhone into the slide out dock. After fidgeting with it for a couple of minutes I was watching a movie from my iPhone on the screen. Cool. But.....then I noticed. Unless you are looking at this player's screen head on, you can't see a damned thing. If you change the viewing angle just a bit, the LCD screen becomes nearly black. Unviewable. Very disappointing. To me, this one fault makes this player useless. It's a shame. The iPod dock feature is cool.
The unit does feel VERY plastic-y. Also, this is an open faced design. You can't close it up. The screen is always exposed. The DVD loads on the back of the unit too. Kind of clumsy.
On a positive note. The unit didn't seem affected by any cellphone GSM noise.
A cool idea but flawed by seriously poor image quality. I would recommend the Sony FX820. You can hook up an iPod or just about any external video source using a cable. The Sony is far superior in material, build quality and picture quality. Sorry Philips!

I expected more, especially at this price point. My chief complaints are with the stand and the picture. The stand works great on a flat surface, but if you are not at a table or something sturdy (like in the car) it has to be held or propped. The picture is not so defined. Not good for sharing, you have to have just the right angle to get the most from the picture which is less than desirable at any angle. Would not have bought this one had I been able to test it first.
Quirky, flimsy, great concept, poor execution June 16, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
(I use an iPod Touch) This device is a great idea but it really seems like it was rushed to market. The materials are light plastic which gives it a very cheap feel. It is light weight though. The controls are not as integrated as you would expect. For example, you have to open the iPod bay to turn on movies and route the video to the large screen. Something that you half-expect to be able to do automatically. The buttons on the device don't seem to consistently control the iPod at all, so again you have to open the iPod bay to change movies etc. The screen is large and seems o.k. although the resolution isn't super-high quality. Speakers seem o.k. The lack of an integrated stand is just plain silly though. I have a Logitech mm50 ipod speaker docking station with exactly the integrated stands that this thing needs. Maybe they really just added the iPod docking station as an afterthought which would make sense. As a consumer, though, you see the iPod dock and think "oh, cool, they made something for the iPod to interface with seamlessly". Nope.
Fantastic Screen! June 7, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This product is wonderful to watch those videos that the I-Pod screen doesn't do justice to. Watch in larger format and compact to carry with you wherever you go. I'd suggest this product to a friend.
