Battery life or defective product? October 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I initially purchased the 80gb Zune through Amazon.com as a *new* product about 6 weeks ago, and at the time it offered the lowest price out there at $199 w/no tax or shipping. After about 2 weeks of waiting, I received this supposedly new product, only to find the top of the item where the lock switch is located was totally scratched up! I immediately mailed it back to Amazon for a full refund, as I did not want to wait another 2+ weeks for yet another possible "used", "new" item.
At about that time I returned the Zune, Microsoft released the 120gb, thereby reducing the price on all their Zunes by about 25%. So, off to Wal-Mart I went, where I purchased the 80gb for $198, plus tax. I've now had the Zune for about 2 weeks, and I had the battery die after only using it about a total of 1 hour. Granted, it sat in my bag for about 10 days without the lock on it, so it's possible that the battery just drained from nonusage. After charging it, (and it took a LONG time before the battery charge light would actually appear on the screen), I then downloaded some songs for a few hours and went to listen to it afterward. After about 20 minutes of listening, the Zune froze mid-song, shut off, and would not turn back on no matter what I did. There was no warning that the battery was running low. Zip. It wasn't until I plugged it in to charge that I discovered the battery was low. I'm thinking that I got a defective Zune and will return it to Wal-Mart this morning and get a new one to re-load my 150 or so songs. I have to say, I purchased this Zune as a replacement to my Dell DJ (20gb), and I never had these problems with my Dell in the 4 years I owned it. Here's hoping for a non-defective Zune when I exchange it today. Sheesh!

Ive had mine for a month, it was grreat at first, now it deleted all of my 3000 songs i had on it, it will only add 400 back and it says error every time i try to sync it. ive had a 8gb before and the play and back button would freeze all the time. it may be my luck, or maybe zunes just suck. i never had this many problems with my ipod although i had some on occation, non to this extent
Great Device October 7, 2008 I absolutely love this device. It is packed full of features and has great performance. With the latest firmware update, they have added 2 games onto the device (more games can be added by using some MS Tools).
The touch sensitive control pad makes it easy to navigate your selection, even quick movements of your finger in an up or down motion will make your selection bar move quickly, almost like a roulette wheel.
Movies are breeze to get on. I converted a number of my home movies using DVD Catalyst, and the quality was amazing on the device.
The 4 star rating is because of the quirks it has:
My only complaints are that it forces you to use the Zune Software. I would have much rather used Windows Media Player to create playlists and sync, or have the ability to copy files directly to it like a removable USB Device (my wife's Gigabeat S30 can do this function). The only thing I do like about the Zune Software, is that it makes tagging/grouping movies I've converted (I ripped my Band Of Brothers Collection, and it allowed to mark them all as being related, with episode numbers, titles, etc), as for music and playlist transfer...I still would rather have WMP
I also have noticed that the touch pad is extremly sensitive. At times, I have accidentally jumped songs, or messed with the volume not even realizing it.
An included AC Adapter would have been nice too, but the only thing included in the box is a USB cable. While it does charge quickly, this makes getting a quick recharge in an airport difficult without pulling out lots of equipment.
Battery life is ok...depending on what you are doing...for music, it'll last you a while, but for movies, I was only able to watch 1 1/2 movies before it powered off.
Overall, even with it's quirks, I would 100% recommend this device who is looking for a feature loaded mp3 player.

I purchased an 80Gig Zune in September 2008. I paid 239.00 here at Amazon, so I don't know where they are getting the 500.00 price tag. Anyway, I owned it for two months, and was generally happy with it. The interface software is difficult to work with. You would think Microsft, the makers of Office, could come up with something more friendly than their Zuneware. The hard drive froze up and failed completely after 2 months. It takes about 6 weeks to get it to the factory, get it fixed, and returned. This is lost warranty time. I replaced it with a 120Gig Zune. The hard drive on this one failed within four hours of turning it on. I sent it back. I'm done with Zune. Microsoft cannot make a reliable product or decent software for it.

The seller "sellonsellon" is a SCAM artist. I ordered and paid for the product on September 1st and as of October 2nd have not received it. Numerous emails to the seller have gone unanswered. I have asked Amazon to refund my money.
