cassette player review January 23, 2008 I have an extensive audiobook and old time radio collection. Eventually, I plan on converting it digitally. But, that will take money and a lot of time. So, until then, this modestly priced player fits my needs perfectly. Simple, straight forward operation. I particularly like the manual hold switch that keeps the digital tuner from turning on accidentally. I would reccommend this unit to anyone who still needs a cassette player.
obsolete in 2009 January 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Good product, sleek, stylish and easy to use. Programmable preset tuning with lock-in feature. Headphones are a bit large, so I use a smaller set I already had. One draw-back; comes with sticker that says the radio will not work after Feb, 2009 since everything is going to be broadcast digitally. No problem if you intend to use the cassette going forward. I would have liked to have been made aware of this planned obsolescence prior to purchasing.
Lousy Device for TV Reception January 8, 2008 Don't purchase this product if your aim is to listen to local TV stations. In the large metro Phoenix area, regular TV has about ten stations available and this gadget will only capture two of those channels. The signal should be clear for all channels since the TV towers are sitting high on top of South Mountain, about 5 miles away from here with nothing in-between. Two out of ten channels, that's a mere 20% success rate for 1 of the 3 functions, TV, radio and tape that this unit was specifically built to perform. Sony, I'm dissappointed at your 80% failure of the TV tuner in this product.
Save your money - this is a piece of junk - December 29, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have bought 4 of the walkamn wm-fx290 - 3 new and 1 refurbushed - the latch on 3 of them have broke and require a large rubber band to hold the latch closed. The latch has a very very poor design and a very small part of the plastic latch will break off. The recorders were used for listening to library tape cassettes. Currently, one player will not work - two players have tape wow, flutters and drag. One player with rubber band is currently working. Sony missed the boat on this pig! The person or persons responsible for this product should be flogged!
Fantastic things come in small packages! December 28, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like to listen to books on tape and do it often. I have been through many portable cassette players, which are very hard to find, by the way, and this one is hands down the best sound quality and ease of use I have found. It also comes at a really reasonable price!
