This is the worst pice of electronics I ever bought. Started falling apart after few days only. Battery life is a joke. Software that comes with it is totally unfriendly and even if you manage to install that thing on your computer it won't work with OS prior to XP. You will find that out after you're done installing it. Mediocre performance. Don't waste your money on this one.
This is a great deal April 18, 2006 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I don't quite understand all the negative reviews. It is a little tricky at first to figure out, I think. There seem to be a few holes in the instruction manual, and things should have probably been explained better. I don't know why that is the case, but it seems to be. Also, you really do need to look at the online instructions as well. You cannot just go by what is in the paper instructions that come with it.
However, just a little monkeying around with it and you should be able to figure it out easily. It has worked just fine for me, and was so cheap. I bought two more, one for my brother and one for my dad, and they both love them. Mine has frozen up twice, with a lot of use. Upon resetting, one time the music was lost. So, keep everything backed up on yr computer. But, honestly, with just a small amount of patience you should really not have much problem with this thing. And, it is so cheap, the small added effort should easily be worth it for most people. If you are among the economic elite and also don't like to spend any time with small technical challenges, I would recommend putting out more cash for something a little easier, maybe. For the rest of us, I think it is very hard to beat this deal.
Virgin's VM-500 5GB MP3 Player is not worth it April 4, 2006 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this item a a reputable retailer in New York, NY (B&H Photo). You couldn't beat the price of $139.95 plus tax for a 5GB mp3 player with FM tuner and speakers.
I had a problem with the set up. I was not able to install the music management program to get my music onto the player. The player did not come with any CD so I installed the software as instructed by Virgin's "customer support." and as per the quick start manual. I also updated the player with the latest firmware as per the instructions of customer support. I still could not transfer my songs. I've e-mailed them twice within 24 hours detailing my situation but all they wrote back was to do the same thing all over again as I explained abve. They kept referring me to the web site but there is no link for the management software. It only have the firmware updates and the player desktop update which does not contain the music management software. The only thing that works is the FM tuner. The player along with the speakers is a great deal for the money. However, given the fact that I cannot put my music on it doesn't make it worth it.
Simple If You Read Directions March 24, 2006 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I purchased this even after reading the number of bad reviews. I figured at the $79.99 price, what the heck. I have been pleasantly surprised.
No problem transferring songs. Sound is great, radio works wonderfully and I am even able to transfer files to and from work using it. You can't ask for anything more!!
It seams the other problems people are having is trying to make it work the way they want it to, not the way it is designed. Follow directions and it is great!
