MD Please! May 2, 2005 This player is great. Really great. MiniDisc in general is great- a durable media that offers you unlimited storage (you can buy more discs) and that does not skip (P.S., I have seen iPods skip)!
The Software it comes with is bad unless you download the upgrade (version 3.4) which actually works really, really well.
Well, MiniDIscs in general rock!
Excellent underdog! April 29, 2005 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
With the prices of these units being so low, it definitely offers a great alternative to the ipod or flash based mp3 players.
I've been using this thing for a week here are my thoughts: pro: easy to use, the software is fairly simple, great battery life on AA batteries, media (80 minute or about 10-13 hours or 300 MB) are easy to find - the 1gb disks need to be purchased on line but are still easy to find and are cheap, small form factor, simple controls, DOES NOT SKIP - EVER, great sound, good volume control, has shuffle mode with barely any lag, the 1gb disc holds a ton of songs, downloading songs doesnt take too long.
con: only one case available that i could find, no backlight for display, not as popular as ipods or the like.
I really like the Hi-MD format, it works for me and I recommend it to others (if they can still find them)
Good MP3 Player with Inexpensive Memory ... GREAT DEAL! April 22, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I recently purchased a Sony MD Walkman MZ-NH600D on clearance for $100 (including a 1GB MD Card). The simplicity of the controls is very usefull and handy. Plus with $7 for another 1GB MD Card, this may be what you might call "an ipod killer".
The equivilent Ipod (1GB) would have cost me $150. For $105.98 (after 6% MI sales tax) I got the same amount of memory (1GB) and expandablity in inexpensive MD Cards. So for $150 I could have gotten a 1GB Ipod Shuffle, or I could get the Sony MD Mp3 Player with 6GB or more!
Overall this Mp3 Player is a great option if you do not want to pay a fortune for an Apple Ipod. The only complaint I have is that, being an older model, there is not as many accessories available.
It would deserve 6 stars, IF it had MIC & LINE inputs April 21, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The sound in Hi-SP is as good as, if not better than, that of ANY OTHER minidisc recorder/player I have heard at any price (and my base of comparison is fairly extensive--15 or so other models from Sony and Sharp.) So about 7 hours of music can be recorded on a 1 gig disc and about 2.5 hours on a standard minidisc utilizing the Hi-SP mode. And this model has been selling CHEAP. The 1 gig disc can also be used to transport & transfer files of any sort. Also the latest Sony software for this seems to be an improvement over older versions. The aesthetics of this model could certainly be improved, and, of course, it would really be a bargain, if it had other inputs (for example, MIC and LINE).
GREAT hardware, horrid software (even recent v3.0!!!) April 20, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The hardware is amazing. Nothing to gripe about at all. It sounds good, is durable, gets great battery life, etc. I was hoping that the SonicStge 3.0 would take care of some of the problems that plagues the earlier releases, however this is not the case. The software is incredibly slow and hard to use especially if you have a large collection of music. It seems to have to redo the entire database every time I make one small change. I am incredibly dissapointed. The hardware would get 5 stars, the software gets -3.
