What a great little recorder! October 19, 2005 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
I use this MD recorder with an inexpensive A-T Pro24 stereo microphone for field and live acoustic recording. It really hasn't let me down yet. The sound quality is extremely realistic. I've recorded things ranging from timpanis to vocals to chimes and the frequency response has been very satisfactory. The only complaint that I could make is that, if you choose to set the record level manually, you have to reset it every time you record. The auto level setting can be pretty choppy sounding because of the quick compression that occurs, so it's worth using the manual levels. Just be sure to keep an eye on them and your recording will sound fine. Oh, yeah, you can also dump over 600 of your favorite songs on a disc... Kind of the icing on the cake with this unit.
MZ-RH910 Hi-MD October 10, 2005 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This model is being discontinued. My understanding is that the model superceding this one has a lit display, which would be a real improvement. The instructions that came with the recorder are not great, but not bad. I bought the recorder primarily for recording our albums on vinyl and on magnetic tape and converting them to audio CDs. It's working very well for that purpose. I have not tried recording with a microphone. The ear buds that came with the recorder are not comfortable for me, but they are adequate for listening to the albums as they're being recorded, so I can add track marks. I guess my principal complaint would be that neither the recorder operation nor the software operation are very intuitive for me.
Mini Disc Fan September 7, 2005 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is the 3rd Mini Disc Player I have had; the 2nd Hi MD. Got it to replace one that was stolen, which brings me to my first point, if I had a hard drive player, and it got stolen, I would have had to replace all the songs I had previously transfered. I have 5 HiMD disc with about 3500 songs. I am able to share discs with my wife, can't do that with a HD player. I just tried the tape transfer and it works great. My only complaint is I think the "100x" transfer speed is a bit of a stretch. It is faster than my last one, but not 100x faster
great product September 6, 2005 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
i had a net md before this and when i learned how good this was for live recordings i sold the net md and got this. it's been working wonderful, though the first one i got had to be returned because the disc ejecting spring broke right away, but amazon was great about getting me a new one promptly. i highly reccomend it for live recordings, especially since you can upload from the md to the computer in about 1/3 of the time it would take if done in real time. be sure to read the directions carefully before doing recordings from a mic because there are many options in the advanced options to be aware of for a good recording. reccomended!
not a bad product, but needs more support July 19, 2005 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
so i bought this basically for the recording capabilites and i was having alot of problems with the software as most other users. What i found to fix the errors in sonicstage was to upgrade to the latest version thru sony's website, (currently 3.1) then load sonicstage, goto media info and initalize (format) the discs. After ive done that i havent got an error since then an its been a pleasure to use. :)
