Loved It Until It Broke January 6, 2004 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This was a great player until it stopped working. After having it for about six months, CDs stopped playing in it. The same No Disc error others have seen had struck. I contacted Sony to get it repaired or replaced. They would not replace it but said they could repair it for $77 plus shipping. So if you buy it, maybe you'll get lucky and yours will work without a problem for longer than six months, but when it breaks don't expect any help from Sony.
Weak MP3 January 2, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is one of the few boomboxes that will play MP3 files on CD-R or CD-RW. The trouble is that some files will play and others won't. The display simply will say "NOT MP3" and won't play the track. Other files play fine. Other than that very major flaw, it's a decent boombox considering the price.
no disc, No disc, no Disc, NO DISC!!!!! December 30, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I got this in silver last August. I liked what I saw. THE FIRST TIME I took it out of the box from (best buy) and pressed play on the deck the tape was dragging. When I tried to press stop I noticed the play button did not pop right up, it went up only half way. The rewind and forward buttons also did not pop up when other buttons were being pressed, all buttons would pretty much stick down at the same time. So no recording new music or speeches or interviews, etc. I had to remember to go exchange at "best buy" Allright, now the cd player I enjoyed, the remote is also very nice. However after 13 months, one day, the cd player shut off in the middle of a new cd being played. Then over the next couple weeks it broke down in stages. After pushing play it spun first, then a clicking sound, and after several attempts it played. After a few day, it started shutting off if you tried to skip ahead. So I try playing straight through, and it stops earlier and earlier in the cd. I felt lucky when I could hear track three on a cd. Then it wouldn't even play, it just clicked and then said NO DISC. This all happened a couple weeks before the new outkast and all the other albums that have dropped since. Why is Sony even shipping this [expletive] anywhere. I know I was supposed to go across town with my receipt and exchange within 90 days right? But damn, again, why is Sony shipping this [expletive] anyway?
Great, but LCD display goes out November 26, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Just wanted to let you know that at least for mine, the LCD segments keep "burning out". It's getting harder and harder to read the display. Right now the "F" in "FM" just shows the horizontal components. Other key segments are out making it hard to decipher the track names.
this sony boombox rocks the casbah October 18, 2003 When i purchased this unit I believed because it was a SONY, it would be nothing but quality. I was right. The sound is great and i have had little problems with playing my MP3 discs. I believe in the manual it explains what bit rates it will read at. I boought this as an office radio and I have never had a problem with it. i think if you want big sound, you need to buy a larger stereo, but for casual listening or office use, i don't think there is a better buy.
