Not that it matters... November 10, 2006 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have this (in blue) - and a lot of the problems mentioned are actually... not problems.
a) the HELLO runs and flashes and is annoying, yes, but it's just waiting for you to set the time. Simple as that. Set the time, and it goes off when it's off (although the time is still visible, like a tiny digital watch), and when it's on, the display is whatever color you tell it to be.
b) the NO DISK thing seems to happen for me when I'm playing a cd I've burned and it's been played on infinite repeat for several hours (also possibly when the machine is in bright sunlight). This has happened exactly twice in 3 years.
c) someone said something about not being able to skip tracks on CDs without using the remote - the disc shaped thingy on the front of the box is what you use to advance or return to tracks. Rotate clockwise to go forward, however many clicks equalling the same number of tracks; counterclockwise to go back likewise.
It is amazing how many of these little issues can be resolved by reading the manual or just thinking for a minute. (who would make a boom box that you can't advance a CD track on? Seems unlikely? Probably is! Maybe the problem is you!)
It's a great machine - particularly the feature where I can plug in my minidisc (optically or with a headphone jack thing) or mp3 player to play through its speakers. Currently looking for another one, in fact.
I have one of these no disc problems October 6, 2005 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
I have had many cd players that gave me no disc problems and the problem is that your lens is dirty. To fix the problem get a cotton swab dip it in alcohol that you buy at the drugstore and clean the lens is a spinning motion with the cotton swab.
The lens is a hard plastic or maybe even glass so a cotton swab wont scratch it up.I have to do this about twice a year.
I got mine working July 5, 2005 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I don't recommend this device because the controls aren't well designed and of course there is the "no disc" problem. However I got mine to to play CDs by plugging it into AC power instead of running it on batteries. I think maybe the batteries were too weak to power the laser.
Not as bad as all these jerks are saying. March 4, 2005 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This a good boombox. The only problems I have with it though is that you have to use a remote to skip the cd. I use this manly to record cds on to tapes and it does that with no problems. I have had this boombox for a year now and it has not broken down on me.
A totally defective product on the CD part December 21, 2004 28 out of 28 found this review helpful
After less than four months, the CD player failed by displaying the infamous "NO DISC" message. Sony should recall this product. Don't buy it! Its functionality is nothing close to its look. This is the second Sony product (the first one being a 32" TV) that has failed shortly after I bought it. The better part of this deal was, when I called Sony customer service, I was told that I could send it for repair for $83 and they will cover the parts cost. And I was assured that it was not a joke!
