I teach waterfitness at both indoor and outdoor pools. I've always used a water resistant boombox and thought this one would be great! It is too big and difficult to carry from pool to pool. The sound was not as good as I expected from Sony. Even at full volume, it just didn't "boom". Reception was fuzzy and the antenna broke after 1 week and gentle use. I was very disappointed and now have to start all over for a water resistant portable audio.
Love It, here's why... June 24, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you are looking for a bulkier heavy duty type radio this is the one I'd go with. I looked at the Dewalt, Rigid, Milwaukee and Bosch, to name a few, and all had items missing in my opinion.
Dewalt: Too many folks said the unit powered the batteries down over a wknd of non use and the AA batteries died in a week killing the preset stations you create. Ashame because I thought the idea of the Dewalt tool batteries was great as I way to save on buying "D's". Also, it has no CD player. Decent price.
Bosch: Too square and expensive, who uses Bosch tools anyway and has the batteries purchased? If so and you want to shell out $[...], be my guest. 19 lbs.
Milwaukee: Ugly. No CD player. 21 lbs. Best price of $[...].
Rigid: Not sure who uses Rigid power tools but if so then consider so you can use your existing batteries to power. No CD player. Heavy at 28 lbs. Average rating at Home Depot's site just 2.7 out of 5.
Here is what I went with and why:
SONY ZS-H10CP: Decent price point ($[...] w/ free shipping). Great look. CD player built in. MP3 or aux input. Saw one a neighbor has and he raved about the battery life. MegaBass makes this larger than normal speakers sound great. Metal antenna that extends from the top left of the black frame...I haven't needed it once yet. Large buttons with rubber waterproof build. Negatives: Oversized A/C adapter. Fits in the back of the unit but barely. It is large but lighter than most at only 7 lbs. I like the large look though, this one is sharp. Digital display with presets, tunes great. Large-oversized volume knob on the top right.
Sounds great! My wife even commented that it doesn't sound like a normal dinky portable radio.
I use this unit at the pool, in the garage, while cutting the grass, working outside, etc.
Glad I went with this one. Hope this helps. I bought mine from [...] but I think Amazon is the same price.
