It Succumbed to the Desert June 20, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Palm Springs, CA heat complimented by wicked spring sandstorms has taken its toll on every radio/CD player I've ever purchased. The Sony ZS-H10CP is no exception, and it met its maker this week after 13 months of service.
The problem was with the lid for the CD player. After 1 hour in the direct sunlight (118 f in the shade) the lid shrank and twisted up like a pretzel. I laughed because the CD lid reminded me of what the old vinyl LP's used to do if you left them in the car too long. None of the other plastic parts were affected this way, just the lid.
Now the CD player wont work and sand is already getting inside the unit. I can't find a replacement lid, and I refuse to pay for the $95 Sony exchange program. That would be throwing good money after bad given that the material chosen for the lid is inferior.
Pros: -Very rugged (except for the CD lid) -Great Sound -Audio input jack is a great feature -O-ring type seal keeps the elements outside where they belong -Plays MP3s
Cons: -Inferior materials used in CD lid -Power adapter is bulky and awkward -Mega Bass is the only audio control feature besides Volume
Great Sound! April 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This Sony boom box has great sound and bass. It may be a little heavy for granny to carry, but it is worth the price. I had a similar Sony 15 years ago and this is the first I have found since then to meet my expectations for my classic Rock N Roll.

durable February 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We use this boom box in a school setting, particularly in the gym area and find it to be quite durable. It has terrific sound, works great as a stand alone, with an mp3 player or with a mic and as a remote CD unit for our gym's speaker system.
Not the BEST Job Site Boombox out there. February 23, 2008 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
My wife bought me this boombox because I work construction and I'd go through a radio every few months. what are the pro's and con's of this critter?
Pro's 1. Durable, tough, you can stand on it, flip it on it's end and use it as a stool. 2. Waterproof and dust proof (mostly). 3. Fairly decent (not great) reception both AM and FM. 4 Decent CD player that plays mp3 CD-R disc.
Now the con's ... 1. Bulky in-line power adapter on cord, very annoying, should have been built in. 2. Loses station set/tuning if unplugged, even with batteries in it. 3. Somewhat large, and not nearly loud enough for size. Considering job site noise. 4. Can not fine tune if another station with a stronger signal is near by on the dial.
Sony said this thing uses 6 "C" batteries, well it's actually 6 "D" batteries. Over all this product is not up to Sony's overall quality. I mean it's tough it's not going to break easily on you, but the radio tuning and disc track memory leave a lot to be desired. You'd think if you had batteries in the radio and you unplug the power cord to move it, it could at the very least remember what station or what track it was on. This is really bothersome if you are in the middle of a 200 mp3 disc. Seems to go through batteries rather quickly too.
I'm giving it 3 stars, because it had lasted longer than most of those in the past as I've had it about a year now. But the true rating should be 2 1/2 stars, it's not great and it doesn't suck, it's right down the middle. For the price though it should be far better than it is, you can buy a lot of cheaper radios that will do the same job for less money.
What's the BEST job site radio? Well soon as I find out I'll let you know, I'm beginning to believe there isn't one. Quality is just not what it use to be.
