disappointed! October 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was expecting exceptional reception for AM radio based on the all the hype and reviews but it was no better than the clock/radio I have for the last 15 years. I returned this radio for credit, and am waiting for the credit confirmatiom.
Great reception October 2, 2008 I wanted a radio for better AM reception and this one works much better than any of my old standard radios. It's a simple radio, only has 5 presets for AM and 5 for FM, no TV or weatherband but does come with a jack for MP3 player. Has good sound quality, looks nice and seemed like a better value compared with other radios advertised.
Same problems as other reviews (lemon?) October 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have the same problem as one or more previous reviewers. It worked flawlessly for the first few weeks. Then, it started to having problems turning on, without messing around alot with the buttons. Strange. It shuts itself off for no apparent reason, or will stop playing the station it was tuned in to, and just start scanning repeatedly thru the whole range of the digital channels. It has been doing this for the last couple of weeks, so I got a hold of Beach Audio, who I purchased from thru Amazon, and requested a RMA. It took them about a week to get back to me with an RMA number, so now I will begin the process of returning this thing. It's kind of too bad, because we really liked the design and portability of the radio, and it's "apparent" overall build quality. I guess looks aren't everything - there must be some circuit board instability issue or something similar. I will look for a similar radio, but one with more reliability.
Just what I was looking for...and more September 30, 2008 I was looking for a portable AM/FM radio that could operate on AC or batteries. I also wanted an external FM antenna and I wanted the unit capable of stereo. The Sangean PR-D5 not only met every requirement that I wanted, it exceeded it. This radio is fantastic. It has digital tuning and RDS. You can also plug a MP3 player into it and play your stored music with outstanding quality and volume. The radio is a little pricey but I think it is worth it. It you listen to AM you will be very pleased with the reception of the internal AM antenna.
Solid Radio Solid Buy September 26, 2008 I'm a cheap guy who waited a long time to buy a top quality portable radio. And I am happy to report this radio was well worth the wait. It has a heavy solid feel to it even without the batteries installed. The controls are metal except for the two side knobs that work as smoothly as an expensive stereo. Reception is superb, the speakers crisp and clear. The five station presets are really useful. The high fashion style is reminiscent of Apple and the white with silver accents looks better in person than in pictures. It also has solid rubber feet that are suitable for your best furniture. Mine will spend most of its time in the master's bathroom, still it looks and works great anywhere. Way to go Sangean!
