Audio Technica ATR-35S September 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this mic to record flute since it was highly recommended by other flute players. It is quite nice especially considering the price. Good buy.
Great quality for the price September 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
There are only two issues I would point out with this microphone: 1) The inline on/off switch with battery. It requires that you remember to turn on the microphone before use and turn off the microphone after use. You also need to keep a spare battery on hand. 2) It is a mono plug. I use the microphone to record interviews where I'm plugging the mic directly into my camcorder. Since the camcorder can accept stereo sound, the microphone by itself only records onto the left channel. An inexpensive mono-to-stereo converter (about $2) found at any Radio Shack solves that problem.
All-in-all this is a great little microphone. It is very inconspicuous on camera, picks up sound very well and the long cord is almost overkill for face to face interviews. If your subject needs to be mobile the cord would be a big drawback. However, if your subject is seated this is a perfect cost saving mic.
Great Mic! September 16, 2008 Bought this mic on recommendations from Amazon. My friend who is a sound expert was impressed for the bang for the the terrific price. I film interviews...personal life stories. My friend suggested I buy 2 mics for an outstanding stero sound. Great advice! I purchased a Y-cable, stereo 3.5mm (M) to TWO MONO 3.5mm (F), 6 IN from a local Guitar Center. The maker is Live Wire, part # YMM-261. This brand has about a 2-inch leeway so it fits into my camera nicely. I bought a similar apparatus from Radio Shack. The bulky make won't fit into the camera jack.
What terrific sound, and the mics are well made. Called Audio Technica for some help/advice. The tech was so informative and helpful...impressive that he took pride and the time to be so helpful!
Useless for outdoors... September 1, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have a miniature video camera w/ audio set up outside (under an overhang) for security. Was looking to improve the audio on it with this microphone, but this turned out to be worthless. Must be for speech only where you can have it clipped to your lower lip... Disappointed..
ATR-35S not suitable for a computer sound card August 22, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Given the glowing reviews, I bought the Audio-Technica ATR-35S Lavalier Microphone to connect it to a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card for narrations. Unfortunately, the volume level was always to low, even with the Microphone Boost +20dB on in the Creative software, which introduced some noise. Although the sound was fine when I held the mike close to my mouth, it is obviously not the purpose of a lavalier. There seems to be a mismatch (impedance or sensitivity) between the card and the microphone. I think this mike needs a mixer or mike pre-amp to boost the signal when connected to a computer sound card.
