Way to go, Philips! April 30, 2003 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is one of Philips excellent cd players. Not too expensive, nice color, great sound with the DBB (dynamic bass boost), and impossible to skip. I throw tennis balls at it while it's playing and it won't skip. Thanks to the 45 second ESP. What it does is collect 45 seconds of music and stores it while it is playing. If the cd gets bumped, it switches over to the music it stored until it can get the cd back on track. And that function is so smooth, you wont get any interuptions in your music. It has good battery life, and you know what level the battery is at because it has a battery on the display with four bars. When the bars are gone inside the battery, that means the battery is dead. Very helpful feature. This player uses two AA batteries. The headphones that came with it are a different story. They look absolutely ridiculous on your head and they sound great and loud but the sound gets out of your ear and goes too all the other people's ears that might be present around you. You would be better with buying your own pair of headphones. One annoyance though: While you are listening to music, if you push any buttons, you will get an annoying, high-pitched beep which ruins the mood that any kind of music will give. You forget the DBB in the middle of a song. You press the DBB button, "BEEP". You get your ears hurt. Back to the player itself, it is small and light so you don't notice it too much while it's hanging on your belt or where ever you put it. It will read CD-Rs as good as it reads regular cds. MP3s play good too. It has functions of repeat, repeat all, (plays the cd again when it's over) Shuffle, and shuffle with repeat all. It also has a switch on the side that has two positions. 1. Stores music at any point so if you press stop, you wont lose your place and wont have to play the track from the beginning. Starts the play from where you stopped. 2. Locks all button functions. Good for jogging. If a button gets bumped, it wont do anything. Unless you turn the switch off. Very good buy!

I loved this CD player so much I bought a second one! One for walking and working around the house and another to take on the road. The sound quality is excellent, the red casing is slick and the design is thankfully sturdy enough for klutzes like me...I dropped the first one on the floor (whack!) twice within the first week, didn't get one scratch either time and it continues to play as well as ever. The only negative is that it does not come with an AC adapter.
