Great portable stereo January 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great unit, good looking, sturdy and well made. It was for my 17 year old son who will be heading off to college, and he loves to skateboard, snowmobile and four wheel, and I knew this could take the beatings he would give it on the road! The one thing I was looking for was the ability for my son to be able to plug in his PSP, to play all his music, and this has that capability. The only thing it didn't have was the right adapter - so make sure you buy an adapter that connects from the PSP (mp3player) to the boombox.

This product was purchased as a Christmas gift for my son. It arrived in record speed on free delivery and was in it's original package. The package was not damaged in any way shape or form. The Boombox is exactly as Amazon described. Could not be happier with the transacion!
Sony Heavy Duty Boom Box January 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Product was Christmas gift for 17 year old boy. He loves it. Sound is rich with Mega Bass engaged. Extra large volume knob is smooth and responsive. Sound is clear with very good stereo separation through out the volume range, which can reach quite loud, yet retains sound clarity. In Radio mode, FM tuning includes the Even Frequencies (unused in the U.S.) Tuning includes seek or sequential frequency. Unit supports independent station presets for both AM & FM. Reception is adequate as we live outside of the metro area. But AM is not nearly as selective as a high quality Sangean. CD works well. Clear, rich sound with very good stereo separation. The forward & reverse buttons serve double duty providing either Skip if held or Track Change if pressed and released. The unit is well constructed. The only Con would be that there is a "Power Brick" in-line to drop the line voltage to: 9V DC, however having the Power Brick in-line is much better than having it at the plug, but not as good as having it internal to the unit. :-) I've seen/heard this unit in operation by our building electricians inside noisy computer rooms. The music can be heard over the background fan noise for quite some distance from the unit. The unit supports external audio input from IPOD or other such device through a standard 1/8" plug. We've not tested that. This is only such unit that I have seen that is Weather Proof/Resistant with Rubber Gaskets and Seals at every opening to the case.
not up to the name January 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently purchased the sony boombox, the sound is ok, Im content with that and the way everything is placed, but a real problem is the cd player, after only playing approximately 5 cds it has started to skip randomly. I purchased thinkin it had sony quality, now Im not so sure.
It is surely a heavy- duty unit, however the sound quality could be better January 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought it as a present to my son after his boombox stopped playing CDs.
AM/FM Radio: I have no complaints here- it picks up local radio stations and it is a good clear reception.
CD Player: I played a CD- no problems here too.
Sound Quality: I was a bit disappointed with the sound quality of the boombox because the old boombox was more pleasant to ear than the new one. It does not have presets for concert, hall and other environments. There is no graphical equalizer. It seems like it lacks highs and deepness of the sound.
Final verdict- It is designed to withstand some abuse for example, riding in the car. It is dust-proof and shock-resistant. It does what it's supposed to do, but the sound quality sucks- lacks lows and especially highs, and it makes the sound "shallow". That's why I am giving the unit 3 stars.
